Otaku

                                      Otaku(宅男)

A few days ago, one of my male friends texted me by Line.“ I will leave here,” said my friend, “ Let’s meet before I leave here.” “Okay, let’s meet for dinner,” I responded. We had dinner together and took a walk on the street. He told me a lot his secrets and worries. Afterwards, he unskillfully drove me home. We said “goodbye” to each other.

After 3 years of hard-working, he earned what he wished for. But I found he is still incapable of talking to girls and always liked to talk about his own stuff. He was a 100% homebody; 3 C products are his favorite. He talked and checked on his cell phone at the same time. Rarely did he raise his head to look in your eyes while chatting with you. I felt disappointed after hanging out with him. There is an old saying: “A leopard doesn't/can't change its spots.” Time didn’t improve and mature his character.

Those who complained others never introspected themselves. Those seldom got favor from girls always say girls are too picky and realistic. But a man with maturity will not say a lot of excuses and put all the blame on others. I felt sorry for him because he still didn’t understand why girls said “no” to him even though he declared his accomplishment.

Brown-Nosing Culture

                          BROWN-NOSING CULTURE(馬屁文化)

After years of working as a low-ranking employee, I realized it’s quite important to gain favor from your employer/boss. How so? All the bosses/supervisors like to be praised and hate outspoken people. If you are not as pretty as they expected, they hope you can be a “yes-man”. They will give you some benefits as a reward.

This kind of “brown-nosing culture” is everywhere. No matter you work in big enterprises, government departments or small cram schools. Those lickspittles are mostly inefficient, but good at flattering bosses/supervisors. Honestly, I don’t think bootlickers while away their time. On the contrary, I think they do the job you are unable to do- they cringe before the boss/supervisors. I would rather refer their brown-nosing as a good means of surviving in a workplace.

My friends,

Do you miss being a child and protected by your parents? If you do, we all understand and feel the same way. But there is a golden rule you should keep in mind: “The way you treat people, and they will treat you back the same way”.

What's Done Is Done

                         What's done is done(木已成舟)

Once upon a time, there was a little boy,Hank, who liked to say whatever he thought in mind. He was a simple-minded boy in a small village and meant no harm to people. However, the one thing which mattered a lot in the real world was the interpersonal relationship. We could eat all kinds of food as we like, yet we could not say what we think in mind.  One day, a wise and old man came in town and heard people speaking ill of the little boy. Few people in the village liked the little boy, let alone liked his parents. Hence, Hank's mom came to see the wise man, asking for help. “ Take your boy here,” said the wise man, “Remember a nail and a hammer with him.”

The little boy came to the old man and shouted,” What’s up! Old man!” The old man just smiled and told him to take the nail and hammer out. The old man took the boy under a tree and told the boy to nail the tree with the hammer. The little boy did as told. The old man asked him to pull the nail out. The boy tried hard to pull it out. The old man said,” Did you see a big hole in the tree?” “ Ya, that was a big one,” said the boy.  “ Could you fix the hole?” the old man smiled. “ Not a chance! How can I fix a big hole like this?” the boy shouted.  “ Your words are like the big hole. It’s done and you cannot fix it.”  “ You cannot fix it even you say sorry,” said the old man, “ People always think a sorry can fix everything, but what’s done is done. Think before you say it, rather say what you think.”

We are in a complicated world and everyone is busy working things out in their lives. It is unlikely people will always remind you everything and forgive your minor mistakes. Sorry seems to be useless if you meet someone with a calculating nature, let alone those working with you. Think before you say and learn something from the real world.

Got Over It And Move On

Got over it and move on(忘了它,繼續生活吧)

A: What’s wrong with you? You look upset!

B: Ko-pin wants to break up with me.

A: What happened?

B: He cheated on me and already slept with a girl. He said that I was not pretty enough, too poor and incompatible with him.

A: He is not the one. Maybe he will ditch you when you need him.

B: No idea.

A: Let him go! Get over it and move on.

B: That’s the only thing I can do.

Bad News, Bad Mood?

Bad news, Bad mood?

I was once a member of English learning club, and spent a lot of my time talking to people from different sectors 15 years back then. The most 2 unforgettable things I still remember are 2 sentences I heard from my fellow classmates. One, a factory worker, said that he could not feel happy every time he saw the news on TV. The other, a student, said that she felt upset living at home, and did not want to face it. These 2 people were from 2 different classes I attended. Each class had approximately 10-20 students at a time. Now in the year of 2015, I found a few students in my class, 10-15 students in a class, have problems controlling themselves such as shouting, screaming and caring very much about their scores. One pretty girl with dark circles told me that she had insomnia and constipated for 3 days. The other boy cries and throws things when he is under pressure. He refuses to talk to anyone and plays with a knife in class. The environment in Taiwan is getting more unfriendly to people than before. The environment means the air, water, food and people themselves. Children are facing more pressure than those a decade before. Adults are trying hard to make a balance life these days. People worry much more than before although the technology advances a lot.

Did you ever picture the environment we will have 15 years later? Did you ever feel so happy when you played with your classmates back then? Did you miss the fresh air and clean rivers during your childhood? Did you ever do anything benefitting  Mother Nature or instead get as much as what you want from it?

We Taiwanese are a diligent people, and have great virtues. We work hard and rarely indulge ourselves in many ways. Since when the good people become so greedy and don¢t give a shit about the environment?  I never think it is the heart changes, it is the leniency that goes too far. We forgive the bad people again and again, and believe in their insincere repenting. The truth is bad people never appreciated our forgiveness and continue in their own ways. It is the leniency that ruined and wrecked our environment and people. Some will say that is the depression which you cannot do anything about it, yet I believe a depression alone could not have done so much to people. It is a circle that every factor connects every point. A small nail got loose and the whole system does not function as it should be.

I urge the legislature to enforce a stricter law like Singapore and the public to care more about our land, water and people. Make Taiwan a better place to stay. See more smiles on people¢s faces.

A Blind Date

Blind Date(相親)

A:  A matchmaker introduced a blind date to me two weeks ago.

B:  Really? How is the blind date?

A:  Well….he is a soldier in the army and will retire from the army with  monthly pension in near future.

B:  Sounds good. How do you feel about the army guy?

A:  We have different values in life and nothing in common.

B:  So…do you like him?

A:  Not really. But I am confused now. I’ve been introduced by matchmakers several times, but it didn’t work out. A give-up thought has been on my mind recently.

B:  Take it easy! Haste brings no success. Why not try to know friends by yourself and keep open-minded. Maybe you will get the one you really want one day!

A:  還好。

How to Love English

How to love English(如何愛上英文)

English is spoken around the world, and people in Taiwan speak English when they do business with non-Chinese speakers. Fifteen years ago, English was a trendy and cool language. Still, it is now. However, I found that most people in Taiwan know how to greet and speak a little bit English when communicating with foreigners from other countries, yet they couldn’t express thoroughly in English. Why? And why can’t they?

English has been regarded as a tool to get good grades in school and to gain a good impression while applying for a job. People do learn English with a purpose. They don’t love it, rather they need it.

When you need something with urgent purpose, you won’t get much of it. Language is a cultural and spiritual thing. Rarely can people master it without knowledge of culture and enthusiasm.

Here are a few tips to learn English for adults: 1. To watch talk-shows via YouTube. 2. To read some English novels or newspapers to sharpen your written skills. 3. To get a friend who speaks English. Also, I encourage you to discover an interesting thing related English.

There is a saying,” Do the thing you love, and you will be good at it.” Try and have fun in the journey of exploring English.
