Taiwanese Percussionist Added to Hall of Fame

The founder of the Taiwan-based Ju percussion Group has been inducted into the Washton-based Percussion Arts Society Hall of Fame.

Love

     It was not until my senior schoolfellow helped take me home than I realized I was surrounded by love. It's been a period of tough days for me to take care of my father, and struggled with if he loved me or not since he didn't treat me well. He was so tradictional and loved his son more than I. However, things turned out to be a different direction since he was sick. He was disappointed by the cold response from his son at his sick bed and changed his last will. He told my mom his son didn't treat him well, it was I who took good care of him. I was surprised that he complimented me because he had always scolded me and didn't love me so much as he did to his son.
     Today, I went home without my sister's company for some reason. Inside, I felt abandoned and knew you couldn't ask more from a in-law. I don't want to disturb a in-law too long, so I came home by my self. I was going to go home on foot if i couldn't get a cab. It was late night in the countryside and i saw few taxis on the road, so I walked a while and  thought about my senoir schoolfellow might be free now. I dialed the number but quickly hang up the phone because of a sense of shame. Luckily, he called back immediately and said he would get mt home. At the moment I saw him and sat i the car I was touched by his kindness.
      Now I understand there always someone who loves you and willing to help you. Don't give up yourself. To hear the words from the ones who really love you, and forget and turn you back on those words hurting you. Walk for love; walk to love.

Ethnicity Not an Important Factor

In both¹ the 2012 and this year's presidential and legislative elections, the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) tried to gain more votes from Hakka communities, which² are often considered Chinese Nationalist Party(KMT) strongholds. However³, taking a closer look into election outcomes in the communities shows that ethnicity might not be such⁴ an important factor.

1.      both 為連接詞表「兩者都…..」與and連用。

  還可當副詞，We like Amy and Phil both. 艾咪和菲爾兩個我們都喜歡。

2.      which 為關係代名詞，先行詞為事務，修飾的是「前面客家選區」。

3.  However 在語意上，表示一種語氣的轉折，代表與前面的預期有相反的結果。在此處當副詞。但若要連接兩個句子時，however前面必須使用分號「；」，後面用逗號和另一個句子作分隔。例如: 紐約市努力想要掃除貧民窟，但是貧民窟還是持續成長。New York is trying hard to wipe out slum areas; However, the slums keep growing faster.

4.      Such 在此處是形容詞，表「這樣的，此類的」。會跟that 連用。

such/what +a/an +adj. +n 例如: 今天天氣很好，我們應該出外走走。

6. Because是連接詞，連接兩個子句， 表明理由。否定用法則是在前面加not。

「not because……….but because」不是因為………而是因為……..

例句: Mike沒有去上學不是因為懶惰，而是因為生病了。

An Act of kindness(出自好心)

Jane is a mum of a five-year-old. She went to the McDonald’s to buy a meal for her son, and saw an unshaven man eating from the ketchup dispenser. She thought he is a homeless guy, so she bought him a meal from an act of kindness. But later a clerk put a meal at the table to the paying customer.

 

Jane: I was mortified today.
 

Co-worker: What happened?

Jane: I thought I was doing a good deed for a homeless man in McDonald’s. And It soon turned to a feeling of total embarrassment when a staff member also brought over a tray of food - that the man had just paid for.

Co-worker: Hahahahaha, really!!

Jane: I didn’t stick around to see if he ate the food I bought him too, I just ran out of the shop as quickly as I could.

10 years in Hong Kong

I often tell overseas friends that Hong Kong is like a diva who¹ gets a makeover every few years. In the past decade alone², the city has gone through several rounds of transformation that rendered³ postcards and guidebooks instantly obsolete each time.   (取自As I see it 部落格文章)

我常常告訴海外友人，香港就像是女明星，每隔幾年就換新面孔。光是過去十年，香港就已歷經了好幾次的改變。而這些改變讓明信片和旅遊導覽書籍每次都很快被淘汰。

文法解析:

¼a diva who¹ gets a makeover every few years.

關係代名詞的功能是將先行詞作後位修飾，敘述先行詞之狀況。先行詞為【人】(diva) 關代用who，先行詞為【事務】關代用which。而that 可修飾兩者。

 In the past decade alone², the city has gone through¼

alone 副詞意思為[單獨/僅/只有]，修飾前面的片語過去十年(In the past decade)

render =make=cause 使得/造成

render用法也如同使役動詞: make+受詞+形容詞 (使 .../ 變得 ... )
